11.05LinuxWorld 2009
Yesterday I visited LinuxWorld 2009 which was held in Utrecht.
It sounds more interesting to the Linux side of life as it actually was though. The expo consisted of Infosecurity.nl (IT Security), Storage Expo and Tooling Event (IT Management) and LinuxWorld.
It was a trade show after all, and it was interesting to see all the people in suits staring big closets with blinking lights!
I attended two events, the first was a promotion of a cloud service (not so interesting) while the second one was about coreboot. It was quite interesting, since having an Open Source BIOS alternative under GPL is always a great thing. Not to mention of course, all the cool things that You can do playing around with BIOS (besides toasting your board
).
Maybe someday we'll get the chance to play with it!
Another thing that caught my eye, was the antivirus market and the companies related to this market. Well, to tell you the truth, I found it a bit weird to see McAfee and Kasperksy promoting their products as if they were Coca-Cola commercials. Imagine antivirus software as a life-style kind of thing. I guess I can further comment on that, but I'll skip it for the time being!
The overall experience was really nice and I would certainly like to visit the city of Utrecht again!
